New U.S. Factory Meets Increasing Demand for Superior Thermal Gap Filler Materials
SEKISUI POLYMATECH AMERICA, LLC (SPA), a subsidiary of SEKISUI AMERICA CORPORATION and SEKISUI CHEMICAL Co. Ltd., now produces lithium-ion battery (LiB) thermal gap filler materials in a state-of-the-art, 3,000 m2 manufacturing facility in Calvert City, KY. The new facility is located within the existing SEKISUI SPECIALTY CHEMICALS AMERICA, LLC manufacturing plant, with whom they successfully prototyped the materials. After trial sales were conducted in September 2023, SPA then launched full-scale mass production in October 2023 to meet the increasing demand for the product.
The production of electric vehicles (EVs) and other environmentally friendly automobiles in the U.S. market is expected to reach 4 million in 2025—roughly triple the amount produced in 2022. As a result, the demand for LiB thermal gap filler materials from automobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and LiB/electrical component manufacturers is rapidly increasing. The thermal gap filler materials produced by SPA are receiving high praise from customers due to their high thermal conductivity, low outgassing, and overall superior performance.
SEKISUI POLYMATECH CO., LTD. (SEKISUI POLYMATECH), parent company of SPA, now has thermal gap filler material production facilities in five locations that span the globe: Japan, Thailand, China, Europe, and the U.S. The SPA manufacturing facility has a production capacity of 1.4 million liters per year, which is equivalent to the amount installed in approximately 700,000 EVs. The thermal gap filler materials business of SEKISUI POLYMATECH projects sales of 20 billion yen in fiscal year 2025, including the U.S. plant.
